5 Toy Stores in Ellicott City
- Doc Taylor’s Toy Emporium is located on Main Street in Ellicott City. This is a traditional toy store that carries toys, stuffed animals, puppets, games, and so forth. If you’re not sure what gift you are looking for, then this store will give you the most variety.
- Barnes & Noble is popular book store, but it also has a nicely curated selection of quality toys in the Ellicott City location. I often shop here for birthday and holiday gifts. They have toys, games, and creative types of toys for all ages. Books may not be the first thing that comes to mind when searching for a toy, but the selection is so good, you’ll probably find a book that makes an excellent gift. I think activity books are a fun gift for young kids. And they have them with so many topics. I personally love the educational and learning type activity books and I’ve found ones that have paper dolls or sticker outfits, but include stories about different cultures. They also have scratch art books, and a variety of other artsy type books. If the birthday party is before summer vacation, a travel type activity book is an fun idea.
- Michaels is a well known art store. As an artist, I have spent much of my life getting art supplies in this store. But it is also great for creative gifts. They do have a section of science type kits or arts and crafts gifts. But I often like to think outside of the box and create my own art gift for friends who are artistic. Art supplies make a creative and unique gift, and you can purchase everything in one spot. Choose a bin, basket, or decorative box and fill it with crinkle paper or tissue paper. Think of an art activity, such as mixed media, and fill it with fun items to create that art. You could add a multicolor stamp pad with a container of mini stamps. Add some decorative shaped glitter to it. Maybe a box of metallic colored pencils and a sheet of stickers could round it out. Find a blank sketchbook or paper pad to go with it. All of these materials can be used together or separately by the recipient.
- Hallmark Creations is primarily a card and gift store at first glance, but they also carry toys. They have many cute stuffed animals, Squishmallows, and other toys which make great birthday gifts. So many kids like sensory and fidget toys, especially “Nee-doh.” What is it about those squishy things? I think most people, myself included, like holding those things. This is a great store to find some fun stocking stuffers or a housewarming gift. Here you can also find mini cards which are perfect to attach to your gift bag for a birthday party.
- Once Upon a Child. This might not be a go-to toy store for birthday gifts, as it is a second hand store, but is a perfect place to find toys. The inventory varies, but they probably have at least one of what you’re looking for, and it is totally worth a visit for gently used toys. I’d also recommend checking here for things like toddler toys and table and chair sets.
Other Toy Store Options
You can also check out the toy aisle in Target or Walmart. Kohls in Ellicott City has some toys as well, and is in the same shopping center as Target, Michaels, Hallmark Creations, and Barnes & Noble. Better World Imaginarium is located in Catonsville. If you are willing to drive a little further, then Lakeshore Learning Store in Towson will probably be worth the trip.
