My portrait photography style includes simple and authentic portraits of your baby sitting on fabrics or in a Moses basket or prop. Depending on the baby's age, we may take tummy lying portraits, crawling, or standing portraits. I provide wooden toys if needed to entertain your baby during the photos.
For family portraits we will photograph moments of you looking at, and interacting with your baby. Family portraits will be standing and seated by white sheers to create the look of window light. You have the option to only photograph your baby, but family and sibling portraits are included.

What to Wear
I usually recommend that everyone in the family wears light, neutral colors or muted color tones. I provide a client closet of dresses for moms and girls, as well as baby rompers, or you can wear your own. View all my beautiful options here!
Dads can keep it simple with a white, cream, beige, light gray, Henley shirt or button down shirt and khaki or chino pants, or jeans in a lighter shade. This makes it easier to coordinate the outfits with what dad wears.
Photo Session Style & Patience
Time of Day
As a mother of 3 children, and the experience I have of photographing many babies, I understand that every baby is different and some need more time to warm up to having their photos taken. I want my clients to feel comfortable and not rushed, so I take a laid back approach to my photo sessions.
I will try to connect with your baby using their interests that you share with me. I like to sing songs that they like and we can work together to get the best portraits while having fun.
Milestones sessions are scheduled on weekday mornings starting between 10am and 2pm in my home studio located in Ellicott City or in your home.
You can choose a start time based on your baby's nap schedule, so that they are rested and well fed before the session.
The session usually takes up to approximately 45 minutes, as a Maryland portrait photographer I find that is the max attention span for most babies.

Newborn sessions, 6+ months, and one year portraits are client favorites. Rebecca Leigh Photography loves to welcome back babies for sitter sessions and first year portraits, with or without a cake smash, both of which also include family portraits. All of these images will go perfectly together in a First Year Album or a linen covered matted print box. And guess who will love to look at this album, besides you? Your baby!

- We offer a client wardrobe of dresses for moms and children and we will coordinate your outfits so that they look cohesive from one photo session to the next. This is great for album design, matted prints, or framed art when printing photos from more than one session to group together.

Within 2 weeks after your session, I will email you a link to your online password-protected gallery. The proofing gallery will have edits for lighting and color/tone. You will choose a digital file collection after viewing this gallery.
Retouching will be completed on your selected images for purchase. Any additional editing/retouching will be completed within 1 week after you notify me of your selections for purchase.

Studio Milestones Portrait Sessions are scheduled within the 10am-2pm timeframe on weekday mornings, Tuesdays-Fridays. Choose a start time based on your baby's nap schedule. Baby Milestones Sessions can be taken starting at 2 months and up.
It is recommended for sitter portraits around 6-7 months. During your Maryland portrait photography session you can view Heirloom Products, such as albums, a matted print box, and framed fine art prints.
3. Your maryland portrait Photography Session
I will send you a link to a brief questionnaire to learn your preferences prior to the session. Your answers will let me know what style/colors/props you want included and what your goals are for our Maryland portrait photography session.
You will also receive a planning guide in the mail with suggestions on what to wear, what to bring to the session, as well as showcase examples of Heirloom Products that you can view in person during the session.
2. Planning your Custom Photography Session
For Maryland portrait photography for your baby, you can contact me to schedule a session up to 6 months in advance. I'll email you milestones session information. You'll have the option to schedule a free phone consultation or we can communicate through email.
I will email you a digital proposal with a contract to sign and an invoice to pay the Creative Fee to reserve your session date.

Tips & Advice
You can book your MD portrait session as far in advance as you would like. Especially during the fall, it is important to get on my schedule a couple of months in advance. We plan your baby's session time around nap time so we have a happy baby! Sessions take place on Tuesdays-Fridays between 10am-2pm.
If your baby is beginning to crawl, already crawling, or walking, the key to keeping your baby still for photos is toys. I know we don't necessarily want brightly colored toys in our portraits, so I keep a handful of small, unobtrusive wooden toys in the studio. The small wooden toys keep your baby entertained for long enough to take pictures.

Milestones Sessions usually take up to 45 minutes. Some babies may be shy or hesitant and this gives them plenty of time to warm up to having photos taken.
HOW LONG IS A MILESTONES SESSION?
Milestones portraits can be taken at any time during baby's first year. I recommend Milestones at 6+ months when your baby is sitting and also at one year. One year portraits with or without a cake smash are great too!
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SESSION?
We will photograph baby, baby with siblings, and baby with immediate family during a Milestones Session. I offer a variety of headbands, baskets, fabrics, and props for sitting, for your selection during your portrait session in MD.
I also have a small client closet clothing collection, if you would like to borrow an outfit for your baby. These baby rompers are not like clothing found in stores; they are custom made for photography and they are sooo cute! Dresses are also available for moms and girls.
