Newborn & Sibling Portraits. I had an idea for a new blog post, only to realize I covered a similar topic in a post last year. But, it is still worth writing because the focus is slightly different. Working with toddlers is a mixed bag ?, but Newborn & Sibling portraits with older siblings is usually a breeze.
Toddlers like to move
If your first child is aged 2 or under, don’t be surprised if they are hesitant to sit still for photos. This is normal, and your child is not misbehaving. Most toddlers don’t want to sit still, though most will eventually come around to pose with their new baby sister or brother. Expect them to wiggle, and not hold the position that we place them in. I am a mother of 3 myself, and I’ve photographed many 2 year olds, so I get it.
I never want my clients to feel bad if their child isn’t cooperating. So take that off of your worry list. We will do our best to get that sibling pose, it may just be a wiggly one. Parents comment to me all the time at how patient I am during their photo sessions. You can feel comfortable that I will take a caring approach to working with your children.
For toddlers, a relaxed approach always wins over a forceful one. Staying calm and letting them decide to participate is the most effective approach. Once they feel comfortable and think it is their idea to be in the photos, you’ll get a happy child.
Newborn & Sibling Portraits | Working with older siblings
When you have newborn & sibling portraits with Ellicott City Newborn Photographer, Rebecca Leigh Photography, I have a few go-to poses. For siblings that are old enough to follow directions, I will ask them to smile at the camera, smile at their baby sibling, kiss their baby sibling gently on the head, and pretend to take a nap. I can only imagine the feeling you get when you are looking at your own because I know how I feel when I see mine.
