In this digital age, digital files are very popular, as they are easy access to share your photos with your friends and family. This instant gratification is great for posting on social media or adding images to your phone or computer. But one of the problems with digital images, is that they can get lost on your computer or a failed hard drive. And they aren’t quite as satisfying as holding a beautiful linen heirloom album in your hands that can be passed down to your children.
The Value of Printed Albums
Children love seeing photos of themselves. I love sitting on the sofa with my 3 children from time to time and sharing their baby photos with them. I even made a scrapbook with each pregnancy so I can remember all of the milestones during my pregnancies. My kids like to hear the stories from before they were born, as well as see the photos of themselves after birth. Newborn photos are so special. And the photos certainly do take me back to some of my favorite memories.
Over time, as the years go by, it becomes more difficult tracking digital images. If you have a super organized photo file system, then you may be able to locate your photos quickly. But I bet if you have a printed album, the accessibility is much more motivating to relive your child’s newborn photo memories.
Now is Better Than Never
So what do I recommend as a newborn and family photographer? Print your photos now! Don’t wait! You will be so happy you took care of this task when your baby is born because procrastinating makes it harder to print later on. Do yourself a favor and make the print decisions in the moment. Yes, you’re tired after having a baby, but go ahead and make your choices now.
It can be tempting to say to yourself that you’ll do something with those digital files later. Consider that now as a parent, you are going to have more responsibilities that will take up your free time. I have had many photography clients tell me that they never printed their photos of their first baby with a different photographer. So they saw the value of printing when they had their second baby. And since I was their photographer the second time around, and made the process easy for them, it was a no brainer.

Or any combination of those sessions. A baby’s first year album is a great way to showcase your baby’s milestones!
