Howard County Baby Photographer | What to wear for a Baby Milestones Session

Howard County Baby Photographer, Rebecca Leigh Photography, shares some examples of what to wear for a baby Milestones Session. Once your baby reaches the 6 months milestone, you may want to schedule a photo session. This is such an adorable age. Many parents will wait until baby is sitting up unassisted, which is often closer to the 7+ months for many babies, just for the sake of having sitting poses. But we have props that we can use as supports for sitting. And of course, tummy lying poses are cute too.

Something different for photography – What to wear for a baby milestones session

Something to consider for these portraits are outfits. A cute outfit you might dress your child in on a special occasion might differ from what I’d recommend for your portraits. With the idea of having these portraits in albums or as framed prints to adorn your walls, you might consider different outfit options. Simple knit outfits in neutral colors or muted tones with textures, will give your portraits a timeless look. I love the look of dreamy and elegant portraits, and outfit selection is an important factor to achieve this look. Soft colors complement the studio and my editing style, and I have a handful of outfits for babies to wear. You can also bring a smocked dress or baby outfit that you like and have photos taken with both styles.

Moms are also welcome to borrow a dress from my client closet. Each dress has been selected with photography in mind. Dresses for your older daughters are available as well. Don’t forget that your immediate family is included in the session!

Wooden toys photograph best

Another component that helps us photograph is objects/toys for your baby to hold. Babies like to be busy or entertained and many will be happy with the option to play with a toy. But we don’t want colorful plastic toys as a distraction in the photos, so I keep a basket of small wooden toys such as rattles, cars, and blocks. That way your baby can hold one without it detracting from the portraits.

As for the sitting surface, we have soft fabrics and baskets/props for your baby to sit on/in. Take a look at some of these outfit examples and notice the color tones and textures. These outfits were selected with photography in mind, so they might be different than what you would normally dress your baby in for special occasions.
